On the afternoon of May 10, 2024, Liuxiao lab organized "iBHE-TIDREC Online Symposium" between the Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering (iBHE) at the Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School and the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education Center (TIDREC) at the University of Malaya. The meeting invited Professor Sazaly Abu Bakar, the director of TIDREC, and Professor Xing Xinhui, the associate dean in charge of iBHE, to deliver welcome speeches. Professor Sazaly Abu Bakar expressed warm welcome to the symposium and hoped that the teachers from both sides could use this opportunity to enhance mutual understanding. Professor Xing Xinhui expressed the hope that both sides could strengthen cooperation in various aspects such as scientific research, project application, student training, and exchange. The meeting was co-chaired by Associate Professor Liu Xiao from iBHE and Dr. Kim-Kee Tan from TIDREC. Professors Ma Lan, Liu Xiao, Edwin Leeansyah, Zhang Canyang, Han Sanyang, and other principal investigators from iBHE, as well as teachers from TIDREC, gave presentations, and more than 30 teachers and students from both sides participated in the conference for in-depth discussions on vaccines, infections, and immunity research. After the meeting, Professor Ma Lan delivered a warm closing speech.
Founded in 2008, the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research & Education Centre (TIDREC) at the Universiti Malaya is the leader in this country’s tropical infectious diseases research and education. It is one of the 20 Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE)’s Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) and the only one for tropical infectious diseases.
TIDREC houses the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Arbovirus Reference & Research, and recently has been designated as one of the only three global outposts of Tick Cell Biobank.
